Welcome to the Summit House

Summit House

The Summit House offers a variety of life experiences to students with learning and autism spectrum disorders, ages 18-21. The Summit is designed to increase self-advocacy, functional academics, independent living, & career readiness with an emphasis on socialization skills. The curriculum will vary due to the individual needs of each student and may include, but is not limited to the following topics:

Life Skills

  • Selecting and maintaining a household

  • Outdoor maintenance & gardening

  • Caring for personal needs

  • Navigating the community

  • Buying, preparing, and consuming food

  • Utilizing recreational facilities & engaging in leisure activities

  • Travel Training

  • Money management

Social Skills

  • Communication skills

  • Self-confidence

  • Self-awareness

  • Self-advocacy

  • Self-regulation

  • Appropriate conduct in various settings

  • Interpersonal skills

Occupational Skills

  • Exploration of job choices & careers

  • Employment application skills

  • Interviewing skills

  • Resume writing

  • Internships & potentially paid employment within the community

  • Work safety

  • Employability requirements

The Summit House also offers the following additional supports for both parents and students:

  • Socializing opportunities with other programs

  • Connections to DDD, DVR, One Stop Career Centers, Planned Parenthood, & Fitness facilities.
